The Edo State government has hailed the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Edo State chapter for keying into the state's efforts to bring the price of Premium Motor Spirit down for consumers.

The commendation was contained in a reaction by the Edo State Commissioner for Mining and Energy, Hon. Ethan Uzamere to the price slash by IPMAN, Edo State chapter.

According to Uzamere, the price slash is in the interest of the residents of Edo State. He noted that Edo State has received more than 800,000 litres of fuel in the past few days. He said this and other mechanisms such as price control monitoring teams have already been instituted and are in operation to forestall diversion.

The Commissioner added that the activities of black market operators who are parties to the petroleum products diversion is currently being curtailed in the state via the mechanisms.

Speaking with journalists in Benin Tuesday shortly after an emergency meeting of members of the association, the Edo State chairman of IPMAN, Alhaji Baba Saliu disclosed that the marketers agreed to sell their old stock above the N350 ceiling after which the price will hover between N300 and N350 per litre.

Alhaji Saliu explained that the dealers have been given weekend deadline after which they are expected to exhaust their old stock before reverting to the new self imposed pump price.

The chairman assured that the association intends to meet again next Wednesday, February 8 to review the situation, adding that the target is to stabilize the price at the official pump price of N190 per litre.

Recall that the recent fuel scarcity has plagued the entire country and many have blamed the Federal Government for their gross mismanagement of the petroleum sector.
