Edo State Government through the Ministry of Environment and the Edo State Waste Management Board has carried out an evacuation intervention exercise in one of the moats at Iyaro, Benin City.
In a bid to sustain the “Operation Clean Edo” campaign, a directive from the State Government, the General Manager of the Board, Mr. Osadebamen Charles Imariagbe, called on every well-meaning Edo people to imbibe the culture of cleanliness in every household and the State at large.
He made this call during the inspection exercise alongside his team when the evacuation team from the Board was carrying out an intervention cleanup exercise on Iyaro Moat.
Speaking to newsmen during the evacuation exercise, Mr. imariagbe we are here to evacuate the refuse dumped by the moat which the residents have turned into a dumpsite against the signpost mounted by the moat to deter people from dumping refuse there.
He said that the State government has continued to do everything possible to make the State clean and healthy for everyone but many people have continued to thwart the effort of the government by violating simple instructions not to dump refuse indiscriminately in public, especially in major places in the City.
The General Manager, however, appealed to the residents to desist from littering the place as it poses threat to the health of people living in the area and passersby who will have to cease their breath just to pass the area, adding that the State government will no longer hesitate to clampdown on anyone caught dumping refuse indiscriminately.
On their part, some of the residents appreciated the effort of the state government to carry out such intervention to clean up the place as it has become a menace.
