Uzamere parleys NPDC, 52 communities reps, urges sustenance of dialogue in resolving conflicts

Commissioner for Mining, Oil and Gas, Edo State, Hon. Ethan Uzamere  has urged Nigeria Petroleum Development Company (NPDC) and 52 communities in the State on the sustainance of dialogue in resolving issues.

This was stated when he held a meeting to settle the dispute between 52 Edo Communities and Nigeria Petroleum Development Company (NPDC) and was held in his office at the Edo State Ministry of Mining, Oil and Gas.

Speaking shortly after the meeting, he said: "After listening to several claims by the community representatives on the continued negligence caused by NPDC’s decision regarding the definition of host communities, I said that the Ministry will create more awareness on the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) and monitor Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) executed by Oil Companies."

"Futhermore I urged the communities to be unified in their decision making and exercise patience with NPDC to reach an agreement in line with the provisions of PIA. I thanked all for a peaceful resolution in ensuring that Edo is conducive for investors," he added.

Attendees  at the meeting were community representatives and Security agents including officials of the Nigeria Police Force.
