Solid mineral sector devt: Stakeholders hail Governor Obaseki for investment-friendly environment as forum closes

Stakeholders in the solid mineral sector have praised Governor Obaseki for instituting an investment friendly environment in Edo State at a 2 day solid mineral sector stakeholder's forum which came to a close today in Benin City, Edo State.

Stakeholders including including mining license holders, Women in Mining, Miners Association of Nigeria, amongst others made the commendation at the close of the forum.

The forum is the brainchild of the Ministry's Commissioner, Hon. Ethan Uzamere, who earlier disclosed that the Ministry was working to develop a State mining policy in order for Mining activities to translate to tangible benefits for Edo people, coordinate activities in the Mining sector and set agenda for more productivity in the sector.

This, he said, is an effort to position Edo State as a major player in the solid mineral sector and diversify the state's economy in line with the vision of His Excellency, Mr Godwin Obaseki, the Executive Governor of Edo State.

Mr Atoe Charles Imariagbe said the business-friendly environment in the State was responsible for his coming to Edo to invest in mining. According to him, "The roads being constructed in the areas of my mining interest was a major driver for my investment. The operations are currently ongoing and we are working smoothly. We are not engaged in illegality in our operations."

Another attendee, Ossai Francis, commended the Ministry of Mining, Oil and Gas for the stakeholders forum, adding that it was the first time they've had an interaction with Government. He, however appealed for extension of Ossiomo Power to areas of their operations in Edo North.

Preliminary report indicate the forum has helped to boost the confidence of investors to invest in the mining sector in the State, which in turn will shore up the internally generated revenue (IGR) of the State.
