Edo to establish parks and gardens agency in renewed greening effort

Edo State Government has reiterated its commitment in ensuring the environment is safe and healthy for its citizens.
Commissioner for Ministry of Environment and Sustainability, Engr. Jonathan Lawani stated this during the tree planting exercise organised by the ministry in collaboration with Build Zone Housing Solution at Ikpopkan junction through Sapele road in Benin City.

Engr Lawani while flagging off the exercise, appreciated the company for keying into Governor Godwin Obaseki’s vision to have a healthy environment.

He said in order to sustain the environment, a bill have been sent to the House of Assembly for the establishment of Parks and Gardens Agency adding that the bill will be looking into greening the environment and its sustainability.
He explained that trees are not just for beautification alone but help to mitigate climate change as the trees helps to absorb the carbon dioxide in the air and also control flooding.

In his words’ ‘This is a continuation of what the ministry has been doing, the ministry has planted over two thousand trees in schools and other locations in the state this year with collaborative effort’’.
The commissioner urged residents and other stakeholders to join hands with the Government to green the Environment and sustain it.

Managing Director, Build Zone Housing Solution, Mr Osayi Collins said the initiative was born out of the desire to have a greener community and they have resolve to plant one hundred trees in the state with a view to improve the living standard of the people.
