JUST IN: Implications of Appeal Court judgement on Edo PDP candidates

ikosamede.com can report that the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has ruled that the issue of delegates list is a domestic affair of a party and that the courts cannot decide for the party. The court gave the ruling in Abuja on Monday, July 25, 2022.

The ruling provides clarity on the issues relating to the delegates list in Edo State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with the camp loyal to Governor Obaseki depending on the ad-hoc delegates election conducted across the 192 wards in the state in April.

What this means is that all candidates that emerged from the primaries conducted and approved by the PDP national working Committee automatically becomes the authentic flagbearers. The judgement puts to rest the uncertainty concerning the authentic flagbearers.

The judge also by the ruling  upturned  Ekwo's judgment on Edo PDP delegates congress delivered few months ago.

The Court of Appeal Abuja held that ad hoc delegates election of the Edo PDP remains part of the domestic affairs of the party for which the court cannot interfer under pre-election litigation and that the  trial judge erred in his judgment. This statement was the nail in the coffin of the camp who are not loyal to the Governor of Edo State.

The Court in upholding the appeal in favour of the Appellants said,
"We cannot go against our earlier decisions in Kano and Edo State".

With this judgement Iduoriyekemwen Matthew, Engr Clifford Akhimienmona Ordia, Marcus Onobun, Omosede Igbinedion, Francis Alimekhana, amongst others are the authentic  candidates of the party and should start preparing to begin campaigns.
