As part of efforts to consolidate its revenue base, Edo State Government is set to launch an E-wallet application, known as Pointe Pay Revenue Collection, a new platform of revenue collection in Local Government Councils across the State.

The State Deputy Governor,Rt.Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, made the pronouncement, during a stakeholders meeting with Heads of Local Government Administration (HOLGA),Road Transport Union Leaders and officials of Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS), at the Government House, Benin City.

The Deputy Governor noted that, the new E-wallet application ,when finally launched by Edo State Government, will ease the knotty problem of revenue collection in the 18 Local Government Councils of the State.

He accused some revenue collectors of short- changing the system, while affirming that 'enforcers'will be trained for the job.

According to Shaibu, "Government is aware of the shady deals of collaboration among some dubious persons in the revenue collection chain. We are ready to confront them headlong.Anybody caught converting government money to personal use, no matter how highly placed or connected, will not only be dismissed from service, but will also face prosecution in court".

Some of the Union Leaders who spoke at the event, lauded the latest initiative of government, while calling for proper and effective monitoring of revenue collectors.

The new E-wallet revenue application, when finally launched,is expected to address loopholes in revenue collection system in the State and ultimately shore up the revenue profile of Local Government Councils.
