The EXCO meeting was headed by Edo State acting Governor, Rt. Hon. Philip Shaibu.

Shaibu decried the spate of prostitution currently ongoing in the city metropolis, adding that it was a worrisome development.

Our Reporters also learnt that the EXCO has set up a committee headed by Isoken Omo, the Commissioner for Physical planning, urban and regional development to advice the council with a view to ensuring that the state laws on anti-prostitution, human trafficking and illicit drugs take effect.

The committee would be saddled with the responsibility of enumerating the private and commercial houses along identified prostitution hotspots. Hotspots identified at the meeting include Ihama, Boundary and Country Home Roads in GRA.

  1. Under the Nigerian constitution prostitution is NOT a crime. The law made by Edo State govt on this regard cannot stand and in an action to enforce one's fundamental human right can be annulled by the courts.
