JUST IN: Edo govt meets security chiefs, traditional rulers, vigilante, hunters, others in move to strengthen security

The Edo State Acting Governor, Rt. Hon. Philip Shaibu today met with security chiefs, the head of the vigilante and hunters from across Edo State. Heads of Local Government Administration, HOLGAs and first-class traditional rulers were also at the meeting to brainstorm on the security situation in the state.

The meeting was geared towards keeping a safe Edo, a safe community and also collaborating with the grassroots and traditional institutions to provide security for our people.

According to Shaibu, "It's not just about protecting the Church now but also about protecting our people and our communities. Security has to start from our communities. When they are all secured, it means the entire state is secured."

"It's obvious that the issue of state police is reoccurring in almost all states, but for now, we want to deal with what's facing us and while we deal with the challenges of the day, we also look for the sustainability of the various measures put in place to secure our state."

He added: "It was a successful meeting and we now have new structures added to our existing security architecture. It's a kind of upgrading given the new challenges."

"We also agreed that this new dimension to the security situation is an act of terrorism and criminality and we agreed to collaborate and make sure that it becomes history in our state and return Edo to the peaceful state it's known for. I'm confident that with the consultations done so far, Edo will be too hot for the criminals."
