HAJJ 2022: Shaibu Tasks Pilgrims To Pray For Nigerian Leaders

Edo State Acting Governor, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu has enjoined the State Muslim Contingent to this year's pilgrimage to Mecca to pray for visionary leaders who mean well for Nigeria.

The Acting Governor gave the charge in his farewell message to the intending pilgrims in Benin City, as they depart for the Holy Land.

According to Shaibu, "as the 2023 general elections approach let me enjoin you to pray for our country, Nigeria for visionary leaders to emerge who can harness the abundant natural resources and human capital for our collective development".

"The Chinese are doing very well in terms of invention and technology. Even Dubai, we are all running to, it took the sacrifice and commitment of leaders to develop the place to the level it has attained today, in the comity of nations".

The Acting Governor warned the contingent to be law-abiding and avoid any criminal activity that could land them in trouble with the Saudi authorities, affirming that it is not a country for peddling drugs.

"Drugs in the Holy Land is the death penalty. You must be good ambassadors of Edo State and make us proud. Pray for Nigeria, pray for Edo State while you are there. Pray especially for the present administration in Edo State, the Governor and myself, so that together we will do what is right and take decisions in the interest of the greater majority of our people", he noted.

Earlier in his address, the Chairman, of Edo State Muslim Welfare Board, Sheikh Ibrahim Oyarekhua, who doubles as the Amir - ul Hajj to Mecca, commended the State Government for not interfering in the operations and activities of the Board.

He stated that a total of 162 pilgrims from the batches of 2020, 2021 and 2022 who fulfilled the requirements, were embarking on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, while calling for government assistance in the areas of welfare and medical certification, among other requests.
