Edo improved security synergy leads Police to arrest of suspected kidnapper, Amos

Edo State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old suspected kidnapper, Amos Edos Osamudiamen, who has been on the Police wanted list since 2021, in Benin city.

According to police, the suspect, and his four man gang had abducted several victims in the state capital, using their victim's ATM card to withdraw large sums of money from their bank account until luck ran out of them.

The particular crime that landed Amos in police net was a victim that him and his group attacked at a residence in Ugbowo and used the victim's Toyota Corolla car to abduct him.

While they got to their hideout the kidnappers forced the victim to call his family members to demand for N5 million ransom but the family of the victim pleaded with them to bring the ransom down and N1.5M was later agreed, and the group ordered the ransom to be transferred into a bank account belonging to a POS operator at Ugbowo in Benin City, for easy withdrawal and the victim's family deposited the N1.5 M into the account.

The information got to the police and they were arrested in the process of withdrawing the ransom. The POS operator told newsmen that, really he did not know that Amos is a Kidnapper but only approached him for a genuine bank transaction which he approved unsuspecting that it was the proceeds from the heinous crime. So he gave the suspect his account number because according to him he was expecting money from his brother.

Meanwhile the Police said they the POS operator is Innocent but they are going to use the POS operator as a prosecuting witness when the suspect is eventually charged to court for armed robbery and Kidnapping.
