Edo Acting Governor, Shaibu, reveals govt plans to bring back 15 different sports as Edo readies to host Commonwealth Trials

ikosamede.com can report that the Edo State Acting Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu, has assured that Edo will bring back 15 different sports as Edo readies to host Commonwealth Trials in the coming days.

He said this when he  received a delegation of the Nigeria Organizing Committee for Commonwealth Trials led by its Chairman and the immediate past President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, Solomon Ogba.

According to Shaibu, "The efforts towards reclaiming the lost glory in sports are in top gear as the Edo State Government has continued to put everything in place to actualize that dream of making Edo State the sports hub of Nigeria."

"It is very rare to see two or more notable athletes in Nigeria who are not products of Edo Sports Academy and that it is on this note we're bringing back fifteen (15) different recognised sports to Edo State.
But to make this effective, the different sports federations must design policies for implementation. This will help us as a country to identify good sportsmen and sportswomen to represent Nigeria at all levels, " he added.

He continued, "We are glad that we are hosting these trials and we have put everything in place to make both the officials and athletes feel comfortable in the course of these trials where we will be selecting the best to represent our country at the Commonwealth Games and Oregon, later in the year. I wish the athletes and officials a memorable stay in Benin City."
