BREAKING: Edo Assembly Confirms One More Commissioner, Approves Appointment of Sports Commission Nominees [SEE FULL LIST]

The Edo State House of Assembly has confirmed the appointment of a commissioner nominee, Pharm. Bamidele Obaitan as a civil commissioner of the state.

The confirmation came during resumed plenary after deliberations on the report of findings submitted by the Adhoc screening committee. Plenary dissolved into committee of the whole to enable members discuss findings and the one point recommendation of the Adhoc committee.

Hon Emmanuel Omoladun Agbaje , Hon. Ephraim Aluebhosele and Hon. Sunny Osezua Ojiezele , Members representing Akoko Edo II, Igueben and Esan South-East respectively, who spoke for the expedited clearance said the nominee is a seasoned professional in his field and is capable of moving the state to the next level.

In his response, Pharm. Obaitan thanked the house for the consideration and the people of Edo state for the opportunity to serve in the capacity, as he promised to utilise his wealth of experience, network and technological know-how to boost the economy of the state.

Recall that Pharm. Obaitan was one of the nine commissioners nominated by the state government earlier this year but was unable to make the screening exercise due to unforeseen circumstances.

In the same vein, the house also cleared the seven-man member of Edo State Sports Commission after the successful screening by the House standing committee on government house, rules and business.

In the presentation of report, the chairman of the committee, Majority Leader Rt.Hon. Henry Okhuarobo from Ikpoba Okha constituency said the nominees are competent professionals locally and internationally as well as possess good reservoir of knowledge and experience in sporting activities.

The newly confirmed members include Mr. Yusuf Ali (Chairman), Hon. Frank Ilaboya (Executive Director North) and Mrs. Anehita Emeya (Executive Director Central).

Other members are Barr. Nosayaba Osayergun (Executive Director South), Dr. Emmanuel Igbinosa (Executive Director Professional), Mr. Asue Ighodalo (Member representative of private sector) and Mr. Uyi Akpata (Member representative of the Chairman).

The House Speaker, Rt. Hon. Amb Marcus Onobun requested clean copies of house resolution and clearance be sent to relevant authorities.

The speaker seized the opportunity to formally commiserate with Onojie of Uromi, staff of affected banks, victims and families of the deceased who lost their lives in the recent Uromi invasion by robbers.

This is sequel to matters of personal explanation by the member representing Esan North East 1 constituency Hon Frank Abumere Okiye over the recent armed attack of 4 banks, police installations and killing of innocent individuals in Uromi.

The speaker said the state has identified lapses in the security system and has therefore intensified efforts to beef up security of lives and property in the state.

He however commended security agencies for their role in the swift recovery of part of the cash carted away. He called on heads of securities agencies to ensure that perpetrators are brought to book.

The speaker also announced the dissolution of the Edo State House of Assembly service commission. The dissolution came after the expiration of tenure of the incumbent members of the commission.

The Honourable Speaker thanked them for their services and wished them well in their future endeavours.
