Obaseki discusses role of digital economy in national growth at conference tomorrow

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, will be the keynote speaker at this year’s edition of the Mike Omotosho Annual Lecture, with the theme, “Digital Economy: A panacea for National Growth.”

In its seventh edition, the lecture is scheduled to take place tomorrow, January 14, 2022, between 10 am and 12 pm.

The annual lecture provides a forum for policymakers, professionals, developmental partners, corresponding agencies and leaders of thought to discuss and proffer efficient solutions and alternatives to pressing societal and developmental issues.

This year’s keynote speaker, will at the lecture, examine challenges affecting the development of the digital economy in Nigeria and identify the most effective ways of addressing them so as to boost national growth and development.

The governor, who operates a technology-driven government in Edo State, believes that the growth of the digital economy is vital in providing ICT-driven solutions to the nation’s everyday problems.

The Edo State Government under his leadership has sustained the development of physical and digital infrastructure, leveraging technology to drive sustainable growth and development in the state.

The government is working with a private provider to connect all of Edo’s 18 local government areas with fibre optic connection to enhance access to the internet and expand the digital economy across the state.

According to the organisers, the Mike Omotosho Annual Lecture was birthed in 2016 out of a desire to see a concrete change in the development of Nigeria by proffering sustainable and effective solutions to the endemic problems plaguing the Nation and forwarding findings to appropriate authorities for implementation.

“The Annual Lecture is specifically designed to bring thinkers, scholars, leaders, politicians, academicians, students, youths and ordinary individuals together to rub minds, exchange ideas, and find some common fronts in solutions to make our country a better place,” they noted.
