The former council chairman, Egor Local Government Area, Hon. Eghe Ogbemudia, in the spirit of the yultide has continued in her usual manner of helping the needy in her constituency.

Lollipop Traffic Volunteers gathered in their numbers at the premises of the former council Chairman in Egor today and welcomed Hon. Eghe Ogbemudia with a rapturous ovation on her arrival.

Addressing the volunteers, Hon. Eghe Ogbemudia charged them to continue to offer diligent service to Egor people, noting that it is a job that safeguards the lives of students and elderly in the local government council, hence they must not relent.

According to her, "Your job as a Lollipop Traffic Volunteer is a job of sacrifice. It is a volunteer service. Everyday you all stand under the sun helping little children cross the busy roads. These are children you do not know but yet you continue to make the sacrifice. I want to assure you that there is a reward for your work.

"I want to encourage you to continue to be dedicated to this job. Sometimes I go round Egor LGA and I see some of you working, I commend you for that. Some of you, too, need replacement of the uniforms. I assure you that I will look into that."

Mackson Efionayin who spoke on behalf of the volunteers thanked the former council Chairman for always catering to their needs despite not being in office.  According to him, "Hon. Eghe Ogbemudia is our mother. She takes good care of us. When she was in the council, she never owed us salary. I thank her for constantly taking care of us. This Christmas gift she has given us today is a yearly tradition. Even now that she's not in office, she still didn't disappoint us. I pray that she comes back for a second term."

Lollipop Traffic Volunteers, an initiative introduced by the former council Chairman in a bid to check the incessant road traffic accidents especially those involving school children in Egor LGA, has been very successful in protecting school children and the elderly as well as creating employment. The initiative is now being replicated in Delta State and other States.
