The passport of a popular socialite and businessman, Obinna Iyiegbu, nicknamed Obi Cubana, who was arrested on Monday for alleged money laundering and tax fraud, has reportedly been taken by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
It was learned that the seizure of his travel document was done to keep him from leaving the country while he was being investigated.
According to checks, the anti-graft agency questioned the Anambra-born social media influencer for the second time on Tuesday in its Abuja, Jabi headquarters.
According to a source, “Obi Cubana has not been released; he is still having quality sessions with investigators for alleged money laundering and tax fraud involving millions of naira.”
“When he has adequately addressed to all questions connected to his involvement in different unlawful deals, he will be released.” His travel document has been provisionally taken as part of the investigation pending the conclusion of the investigation.”
Wilson Uwujaren, an EFCC spokesman, acknowledged that the suspect is still in jail, but said he had no information on the passport seizure.
