The vesicoaginal Fistula Clinic set up by Her Excellency, Betsy Obaseki at the Stella Obasanjo Hospital in Benin City has successfully carried out free restorative surgeries for its first set of VVF patients.
The beneficiaries who met with the Edo State First Lady, expressed immense gratitude for a second chance to live a healthy and normal life.
The Wife of the Governor of Edo State, Betsy Obaseki expressed joy and fulfilment over the restored dignity of the women and invited VVF sufferers within and outside Edo State to avail themselves of the professional treatment and care at the EDO VVF Center.
VVF specialist, Professor Ileogben Adeoye said that the joy derived from experiencing health restored cannot be equated with money.
He also took the opportunity to beckon on prospective beneficiaries from within and outside the State.
Some recipients of the free Surgery also lent their voices to the same appeal in an interaction with newsmen, shortly before their discharge.
Mrs Omoregie Angela said she had patronized a nurse while in labor who mutilated her and in an attempt to salvage the situation, she visited a private hospital where matters were made worse, leaving her excreting through her vagina.
However, she is grateful to God and the First Lady of Edo State for the hope and healing brought about by the initiative.
Against professional counsel, Mrs Beauty Famous rejected a cesarean session and unfortunately lost her baby. She suffered urinary incontinence for two years in a struggle to raise four hundred thousand naira required for surgery before being rescued by the First Lady.
She advised that pregnant women learn from her experience and take heed to doctors’ recommendation.
Mrs. Omosivie Gladys became a VVF patient due to surgical errors. She confessed to have undergone this repair surgery twice which had both failed but this time, she confirmed the success of the repair.
She did not spare words of gratitude to Her Excellency, Betsy Obaseki for coming to her aid when there was no other way to afford a third surgery.
