COVID-19 3rd wave: Edo urges vaccination, records zero new case, no fatality in 24 hours

Efforts by the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led state government to contain the third wave of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has continued to yield gains as the state witnessed a sharp decline in case positivity and fatality rates, recording zero new cases and no death from the virus in the last 24 hours.

Head of the State's COVID-19 Case Management, Dr. Osagie Ebomwonyi disclosed this during the daily virtual meeting of the State COVID-19 Taskforce, chaired by the State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki.

Ebomwonyi, who linked the success recorded to the government’s effort at vaccinating the majority of Edo citizens to protect them from the virus, urged residents to assist the government in sustaining the progress by getting vaccinated and complying with all non-pharmaceutical intervention to contain the pandemic.

According to him, “On the back of nuanced strategies by the Obaseki-led government to contain the third wave of COVID-19 and protect Edo citizens, Edo State is witnessing a reduction in the number of infections, deaths and active cases.

“In the last 24 hours, we recorded 120 more recoveries, zero new cases, with no death from the virus. We now have 241 patients that are being treated in various treatment and isolation centres across the state.”

The case manager, while reiterating the need for residents to come out for the ongoing vaccination exercise in order to remain healthy and alive added, “To sustain the gains recorded in the fight against the third wave of this deadly virus, it is necessary for all citizens to get vaccinated and ensure strict compliance with non-pharmaceutical interventions against the spread of the disease.”
